9 Ways to Help a Website That’s Not Generating Revenue
“Our website doesn't generate any revenue."
Anytime I've heard this, a quick look always confirms my suspicions...
Their website is broken. But it doesn't have to be.
Sales teams, conferences, trade shows, etc all play a role. But a strong website can be a tremendous force in your sales process.
Following are nine ways that you can help your website generate revenue…
1. Make a strong first impression.
That big first sentence should scream value to your visitors. What’s in it for them? What job can you help them solve?
2. Be explicitly clear.
The second sentence your visitors read should remove any fog or confusion. They’re looking for a nuts n’ bolts answer on how you create value for them.
3. Get serious with your CTA.
Unclear CTAs leave people uncertain about the next step. Examples: Learn more. Get started. Discover more. Try something simple and active instead. Examples: Schedule consultation. Try now. Request demo.
4. Focus on them.
People don’t care about your company history, organizational Kool-Aid, or general puffery. Read their mind and they’ll trust your solutions.
5. Make it simple.
Endless paragraph, run-on sentences, and five-dollar words make visitors bounce. Make your words matter. Short, sweet, to the point.
6. Answer lingering questions.
Interview prospects and customers to learn their biggest questions. Then answer them. Clear up any remaining confusion with FAQs, testimonials, and videos.
7. Build trust.
Build trust with case studies and testimonials. Testimonials that show emotions and explore pre-purchase stages will resonate better. A less polished testimonial is often perceived as more genuine.
8. Collect leads.
Lead magnets can work when they’re not cheap and lazy. Offer your prospects a generous gift of value. Offer them information you could charge for but don’t.
9. Think long term.
Consistently offer your prospects valuable information. Don’t gate the content. Don’t be sales-focused. Just help. They’ll return the favor.
